Making Masculine Cards With The Open Sea Stamp Set

Designing masculine cards often causes problems for people. In fact, we were discussing how to come up with masculine cards at a recent downline meeting (a meeting of other Stampin' Up! demonstrators in my group) and decided that it was something we could always work on more often. Most of the masculine cards I design are fairly simple.

I really like The Open Sea stamp set for those men that do not love sports or fishing. I know they are out there because I am married to one. Granted a nautical theme may not always work, but I know it works well for many of the men in my family.

VersaMark is an awesome ink and I used it with the Early Espresso Embossing VersamarkPowder for the heat embossing. It is the "best" ink for heat embossing! It stays wet long and holds the embossing powder well. I also used the ink for the background stamping of the ledger. When you stamp an image inked with VersaMark, you get an image that is about two shades darker than the card stock. It is a great way to get a subtle background.

Stamping Tip: I stamped and embossed the sentiment before I stamped the background. That way my embossing powder did not stick to the background ledger image.

I love the way heat embossing adds so much to a card and is usually a "wow" with new stampers. I know that technique is the reason I started stamping a long time ago!
