Question and Answers: Do The Old Ink Refills Work With the New Pads

Classic Firm Foam Ink PadsToday I am going to answer a couple of questions I have received about the new Firm Foam Ink Pads.

Question: Can I use the old Classic Ink Refills with the new Firm Foam Pads?

Answer: Yes, with the exception of five colors.

Five ink colors have undergone formula changes to improve functionality and color stability with the new firm foam pads. These colors are:

  • Basic Black
  • Basic Gray
  • Marina Mist
  • Perfect Plum
  • Tempting Turquoise

All five colors of the reformulated inks have been fully tested and approved. While using the new ink formula in the old Stampin’ Pads is fine, it is not recommended to use the old ink formula for these five colors in the new firm foam pads. Any refills purchased after April 30, 2012, will contain the new formulated ink.

Question: Why does the classic Basic Black ink smear when I use it with Whisper White or Very Vanilla card stock?

Answer: It is not recommended to use Classic Basic Black ink with Whisper White or Very Vanilla.

Whisper White and Very Vanilla card stocks have a smoother surface and the Basic Black ink does not dry as well on these card stocks. Stampin' Up! is working to solve this issue, however until it is solved you should use the Jet Black Stazon ink with the Whisper White and Very Vanilla card stocks.

I have to say I do love the new Firm Foam ink pads and after I have become accustomed to working with these ink pads I would not want to go back to the others. They give a much deeper and rich image. I do find that I need to re-ink them a bit more often than I did my old pads.
